As a girl of both spirit and human blood, eight-year-old Ellen has power over the elements—though not the traditional four. In a sudden, devastating demon attack, the spirit magician Rovel Vankreift, eldest son of House Vankreift, was fatally injured. The Queen of Spirits, Lady Origin, had fought by Rovel's side; she saved him from the clutches of death by bringing him to the spirit realm, and Rovel was pronounced the nation's hero.
